REWIND wins Cannes Lion for ‘BBC Home: A VR Spacewalk’
Today, we are unashamedly blowing our own trumpet!
Over the weekend ‘BBC Home – a VR spacewalk’ picked up a silver award in the Digital Craft category at Cannes Lions. The Digital Craft Lions celebrate technological artistry with a focus on form and function, design, execution and user experience.
We are incredibly proud that ‘Home’, created with the BBC, was awarded a Silver Lion, the same award and level that the likes of Google were awarded for ‘Tilt Brush’, Intel and Nike. And in a category (Digital Craft) that boasted a shortlist of 93. To be recognised amongst the world’s creative elite is a real accolade and testament to the hard work the team put into creating the experience.
This latest award adds to six others ‘Home’ has already scooped: an Jury Award at Alternate Realities VR at Sheffield Doc/Fest, the Grand Prix Jury Award at Future of Storytelling, ‘Best Interactive VR Experience’ award at Byron Bay International Film Festival, a Webby Award – Film & Video for VR Gaming, Interactive or Real-time, and Best Immersive Experience at Binge Watch and A Silver award in the VR Category at The Lovies,
Home’s ambition as a piece of VR is to combine a strong narrative and sense of drama with the incredible impact possible in an immersive experience to encourage and enhance the public’s interest in space. If we’ve whet your appetite, Home will be released on Steam soon. Watch this space (no pun intended!).
Presence is the magic of VR, the feeling that you’re actually in the virtual world.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Children’s Charity is close to the hearts of many at REWIND.
According to a new study, one in four millennials put VR gadgets at the top of their wish list this year. With the buzz that’s been around VR for a while now, it’s no surprise, but the number of options can be confusing, and it doesn’t help that there are even more headsets on the way!
The holidays are coming (hurrah!) and as a little gift from the REWIND team, we’ve handpicked some delicious gin cocktails for you to try! With those lightly spiced undertones, we think gin is perfect for winter; why wait for summer?! We’ve had a lot of fun making and testing these cocktails in the office, we […]
While much has already been made of the impact virtual reality has had on entertainment and communication, the technical benefits of VR are potentially far more wide ranging and significant.

– Sam Birley Lead Developer, REWIND Games and the pursuit of new technology have always had a symbiotic relationship, so it should come as no surprise that game development and VR development share a lot in common. They target the same platforms, they both produce interactive experiences. They are both rendered in real-time. What […]
During a lecture at the Royal Aeronautical Society on Thursday 9th November 2017, we had the chance to send Tim Peake back to the International Space Station (ISS). The British European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut experienced Home: A VR Spacewalk, the immersive experience we created in collaboration with BBC Studios Digital. The epic 15-minute VR experience takes inspiration from the very same […]
